Performance
Many people are surprised at how different the Hilux performs compared to what they expect. After swapping from a conventional car they expect masses of power from the Hilux when in fact, it has a leisurely engine that is certainly not over-powering. It is however a quiet engine for a pick-up truck and is not unpleasant to drive. Later versions of the Hilux were updated to a 120bhp engine or a 3.0litre diesel, 170bhp engine which can push there weight and perform much better.

Practicality
The Toyota Hilux can carry more then 1000kg in it's load bed. Besides the fact that this is ideal work truck for occupations uncluding builders, decoraters and farmers the load capacity means the Hilux is exempt from VAT for business users. The load bed can vary in size, depending if you opt for a Single, Double or Extra cab vehicle.

Behind the Wheel
The Hilux has a pleasant interior. Finished in a way you would typically expect in a passenger vehicle. Fixtures are sturdy and the whole cabin has a robust feel about it. The cabin is roomy with high seating positions and great shoulder, head and legroom. Access is made easy by wide opening doors. There are plenty of storage areas for bottles and bits and bobs.

Safety
The Toyota Hilux has an energy absorbing frame structure with a collapsible steering column and retractable brake pedal which minimises injuries in a crash. All Hilux models has front driver and passenger airbags as standard although only the top of the range 'Invincible' model has curtain airbags. ABS is standard across the range as are side impact beams.

Costs
The Toyota Hilux costs considerably less to buy and run than other pick-ups on the market. Toyota managed this by saving in labour time during services. The Hilux can manage 34mpg which is fairly decent for a vehicle of its size and weight.
