The Volkswagen Beetle is a vehicle particularly popular with females which may be due to its distinctive rounded profile and the unusual dash mounted vase. The unusual shape however, compromises the interior space. The sloping roof means head and leg room is limited although space in the front compared to the rear is much better. The VW Beetle is easy to drive and provides a good, smooth ride soaking up bumps and pot holes fairly well although it is not designed for performance so the Beetle lacks excitement. The vehicle feels composed and safe and noise levels are very low helping give a relaxing ride. The interior of the Beetle is typical Volkswagen. Neatly laid out and nothing special but feels dated. Build quality is generally good and all round visibility is a plus, which is helped by the large glass area. The Beetle's interior features a 3 spoke steering wheel, electric front windows and electronically adjustable and heated mirrors. Boot space in the Beetle is not bad with 209 litres capacity. However the awkward shape of the vehicle means carrying larger items such as pushchairs is a tricky job. There is other reasonable storage space in the cabin such as twin cupholders and door pockets although these are narrow. The VW Beetle comes as standard with ABS and ESP stability control, driver, passenger, curtain and side impact airbags and remote central locking with an alarm and immobiliser.
